Moses Williams

Moses Williams was born about 1833. Place and parents currently unknown. He has not been found in the 1860 federal census, however many census takers did not include Natives until it was required in the 1870 census.

He enlisted in Company K, First Michigan Sharpshooter on 4 Jul 1863 in Marquette, Marquette County, Michigan for three years.

He was about 30 years old, a hunter and farmer.

Moses was described as five foot eight inches tall, black eyes, black hair, dark complexion.

He was mustered in on 20 Jul 1863.

Moses was reported present until the Battle of the Crater, Peersburg, Virginia, 30 Jul 1864, when he is listed as taken prisoner. On 31 Dec 1864, after testimony of two Company K comrades, he was listed as killed in action.

Moses was buried at the battle site in an unmarked grave.
