Moses Williams was born about 1833 in Marquette, Michigan and enlisted there on 4 Jul 1863 for three years. He was described as 5'8", black hair and eyes, a farmer and hunter. Moses died 30 Jul 1864 at the Battle of the Crater.
"The Indians had taken a beating on 30 July. Survivors remembered that Charles Carter and Moses Williams had died in the fighting."[These Men Have Seen Hard Service by Raymond J. Herek, page 234]
